TooMuchWifi enables the community of Khayelitsha
Known for being one of the largest and fastest-growing townships in Cape Town, Khayelitsha is home to more than half of Cape Town’s unemployed population. Khayelitsha, meaning ‘New Home’ in Xhosa, was established in the 1980s to accommodate informal settlements along the Cape Flats. It has become a vibrant township known for its entrepreneurial spirit and social development projects. TooMuchWifi enables the community of Khayelitsha to share their skills and talents with those in and around their community.
Poverty and unemployment are still prominent in Khayelitsha. However, the community is heading for social and economic change. Shacks are being replaced by brick houses, health care is improving and small businesses are on the rise. TooMuchWifi is bridging the gap between small businesses and the growing unemployment rate.
TooMuchWifi’s vision is to improve the lives of those living in communities. Khayelitsha’s small businesses and young entrepreneurs are able to connect with opportunities within their community using TooMuchWifi’s air fibre.
One of these small businesses is Siki’s Koffee Kafe. Through a deep passion for coffee and an entrepreneurial spirit, Siki began to make his dream a reality. Siki joined TooMuchWifi’s entrepreneurship program to better understand the process behind creating the Siki’s Koffee Kafe brand. Since then, he has opened Siki’s Koffee Kafes in Khayelitsha and Claremont – providing quality coffee and internet. TooMuchWifi is the official internet provider of Siki’s Koffee which allows Siki to provide an ‘internet cafe’ style work space for anyone and everyone to enjoy.
Khayelitsha has become a society of its own; offering a wide variety of bars and restaurants, youth development programmes and culturally rich experiences. With the use of TooMuchWifi air fibre, Khayelitsha will be able to welcome more people into their community.
