What we are looking for

A highly proficient Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer to work in close collaboration with our Network Engineering and Network Technicians. As a member of our team, your primary responsibility will be the meticulous upkeep and vigilant monitoring of our Company’s rapidly expanding network.

About the role

As a NOC Engineer, you will engage in a synergistic relationship with our Network and Software Development departments, contributing your expertise to optimisation, management and sustained maintenance of our network infrastructure, thereby facilitating reliable and efficient data transmission. You will leverage your advanced skills to diagnose and rectify network complications, uphold superior network performance standards, and assist users with network-centric inquiries. Additionally, you will have the privilege to work with and influence the use of the latest advancements in network engineering tools and technologies.

What you will be doing

  • Monitoring network infrastructure for any issues or abnormalities.
  • Implementing and maintaining network security measures to protect data.
  • Responding swiftly to outages or disruptions of service.
  •  Performing regular network troubleshooting to diagnose issues.
  • Ensuring network connectivity across all servers, devices, and users.
  •  Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of network technology trends and developments.
  • Communicating effectively with IT teams and management about network performance and planning.
  • Coordinating with third-party vendors for equipment and services.
  •  Ensuring network backup systems are adequately protecting data.
  • Creating and implementing network maintenance standards and processes.
  • Configuring and installing network hardware and software.
  • Creating network performance reports and presenting them to management.
  • Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data in network infrastructure.
  • Implementing and managing IP addressing schemes.
  • Planning for network growth and scaling up the infrastructure as needed.
  • Managing network disaster recovery initiatives.
  • Training and mentoring junior network operations staff.
  • Coordinating and conducting routine hardware and software upgrades.
  •  Creating effective incident response strategies to minimise network downtime.
  • Participating in audits to ensure compliance with network standards and regulations.

Qualifications

Industry-recognised certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Juniper Networks Certified Enterprise Routing and Switching Expert (JNCIE-ENT), or CompTIA Network+, or other relevant industry certifications, which demonstrate a strong foundational knowledge of networking principles.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3 – 5  years of work experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with Network Technologies and network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, Ethernet), routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF), and network architecture.
  • Previous experience in a NOC or a similar environment can be extremely beneficial. This can often demonstrate the ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced situations.
  • Networking Skills: Proficiency in working with networking protocols, equipment, and software, including understanding network architecture, managing IP addressing, and troubleshooting network issues.
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, or Wireshark, which are commonly used in network operations centres.
  • Security Awareness: Understanding of key network security concepts and practices, including the use of firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Operating System Proficiency: Confident working with major operating systems like Linux and Windows, and their command-line interfaces, as they are often used to configure network hardware and analyse network traffic.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to various stakeholders, including those without a technical background, and to document network incidents and solutions accurately.
